Hey Terry. I have a dremil with a router attachment. The cutter is just a straight shaft with an abrasive tip. I used a cottage cheese lid (just the right size) to mark the scallops, cut them out then hand sanded. Easy peasie.
Thanks for the reply.
Where did you get the idea to put scallops on the LLE? Just for looks?
Also what’s your name and location?
Terry Johnstone
Deer Valley Airport, Phoenix
I’m very close to where you are in the build.
My name is Joe Gallagher, aka Frontier Fox on the teamkitfox.com
I’m located in Scappoose OR. It’s about twenty miles west of Portland.
Scalloping the LLE is what most do. It makes it easier for the fabric to lay down, sometimes the fiberglass will pucker up between the false ribs. It also reduces weight. Not much but every ounce adds up.
I’m getting close to covering the wings and the bottom of the fuselage. Just a little work left on the pitot tube and a few odds and ends.
I need to connect with Advanced Flight Systems in the next week or so. It’s going to be a VFR panel so not too fancy but I am putting in autopilot so I need the servos and the ADHARS.
Trying to get something done every day and keep the momentum up. This is my first build so it’s not a fast build and won’t be a show plane.
What tools did you use to make the scallops on the LLE?
Terry
